Analyzed the financials and operations of a feedyard to see if a struggling business can be put on the right track or should be sold.
Provided interim management when the manager left before the sale was closed.
Wound down the seller’s operations after the close including:
marketing company and owner cattle,
managing the hedge account,
terminating employee 401K plan,
liquidating insurance policies,
liquidating assets not included in the sale,
helping seller’s accountant wind down the books,
dealt with a lingering lawsuit, and
dealt with lingering workers compensation claims.
For buyers:
Built proforma financials for buyers and lenders for the feedyard, for cattle ownership, or both.
Worked on debt packages for real estate, operations, and cattle financing.
Provided interim management until a full-time manager could be put into place.
Assisted in transferring utility services.
Consulted on building a customer base.
For ongoing operations:
Analyzed financials and operations of a feedyard to improve operating margins.
Reviewed all phases of a dairy heifer development business to improve efficiencies and breeding rates and to reduce costs per head bred. This included reviewing everything from employee communications to cattle handling to commodity buying processes to the computer systems.
Provided interim management when a feedyard manager left on short notice.
Marketed fed cattle and purchased commodities until a young manager could get up to speed.
Consulted on building a customer oriented business.
Helped develop a long-term growth and exit strategy for a cattle feeding family.
